NLM Group Human Rights Policy
In its Management Policy, the Nippon Light Metal Group (the "NLM Group") has stated that, "The Group will engage in fair and honest business operations, with respect for human rights and an emphasis on ethics," and set "Protecting and respecting human rights" as one of our materiality.
Based on our understanding that NLM Group's business activities may cause or contribute to adverse human rights impacts and that there can be adverse human rights impacts directly linked to the NLM Group's operations, products and services, we established the NLM Group Human Rights Policy (the "Policy") to protect and respect the human rights of people involved in business activities and will promote efforts to protect and respect human rights.
| 1. | Compliance with laws and regulations of each country and respect for international norms We will comply with applicable laws and regulations governing human rights in respective countries and respect international standards on human rights such as the International Bill of Human Rights (Universal Declaration of Human Rights and International Covenants on Human Rights), the ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. If internationally recognized human rights are not properly protected due to laws and regulations of a certain country or region, we will seek ways to respect internationally recognized human rights to the greatest extent possible. |
| 2. | Scope of application The Policy applies to all officers and employees of the NLM Group. We will also work to encourage enterprises in NLM Group's supply chains and other business partners that they support this Policy and endeavor to respect human rights according to the Policy. |
| 3. | Prohibition of discrimination We will treat all people deferentially and respect human rights. We will not engage in any discrimination and harassment conduct. We will not make a judgment or speak or act based on age, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, sexual expression, nationality, race, skin color, religion, creed, origin, ethnic group, disability, health status, pregnancy status, employment status, or other circumstances that are unrelated to business operations. We also will not tolerate overlooking such circumstances. |
| 4. | Creation of satisfying workplaces We will eliminate child labor, forced labor and overwork, secure freedom of choice in occupation and appropriate working hours and wages, and create a safe and healthy work environment. We respect fundamental rights at work including freedom of association and right to collective bargaining. We will also deepen communications with employees and create workplace that supports job satisfaction. |
| 5. | Addressing responsible procurement We will not use tin, tantalum, tungsten and gold (3TG) mined in the Democratic Republic of Congo and its peripheral countries and products that use the foregoing. We will endeavor to avoid the procurement of other materials and products from regions that are affected or have the risk of becoming affected by conflicts and regions that are suspected of human rights infringement. |
| 6. | Dialogue/consultation with stakeholders In implementing the Policy, we will engage in a dialogue with stakeholders who may be affected by adverse human rights impacts that may be caused or contributed to by the NLM Group's business activities or that are directly linked to the operations, products and services of the NLM Group. We will also endeavor to enhance and improve our efforts for respecting human rights by using advice from external experts on human rights and their insight. |
| 7. | Human rights due diligence We will continuously implement human rights due diligence with the aim of identifying adverse human rights impacts that may be caused or contributed to by the NLM Group's business activities or that are directly linked to the operations, products and services of the NLM Group, and endeavor to prevent, mitigate and remediate such adverse impacts. We will track the effectiveness of the efforts and periodically communicate and disclose information about how such impact has been dealt with. |
| 8. | Grievance mechanism Regarding concerns about adverse human rights impacts that may be caused or contributed to by the NLM Group's business activities or that are directly linked to the operations, products and services of the NLM Group, we will develop and operate a contact point for stakeholders to use. |
| 9. | Remedy If adverse human rights impacts that may be caused or contributed to by the NLM Group's business activities or that are directly linked to the operations, products and services of the NLM Group are identified, we will promptly implement remedies through legitimate processes. |
| 10. | Education To help solve actual or potential issues related to human rights, we will work on helping officers and employees of the NLM Group acquire more accurate knowledge and understanding by providing continuous and appropriate opportunities for education and training. |
| 11. | Sharing of the policy The Policy represents and widely shares responsibilities of the NLM Group according to the basic policy of its Management Policy and supplements the NLM Group Business Conduct Guidelines and NLM Group Compliance Code. |
